Personality what they are like
The breed standard describes a quiet, steady hound that is attached to its owner, sure of itself and bold, yet gentle and neither timid nor aggressive.3
Daily activity how busy a day looks
A working scent hound bred to track and hold game in rural Brazil, so it needs plenty of daily exercise and chances to use its nose.3
Grooming and care the hands-on bits
The short, close coat is easy to keep; an occasional brush is enough.3
Company who they like around
Bred to hunt in pairs, trios or packs as well as alone, so it is used to working with other dogs.3
The story where it all began
Brazilian breeders developed this hound from the American Foxhound and the older Urrador to suit local hunting and the tropical climate, and the FCI accepted it in 1967. The original population was lost by the early 1970s and the breed was removed from the registers, then rebuilt through planned breeding with other hounds and re-recognised in Brazil in 2013.32
