The story where it all began

The Flat-coat was developed in mid-19th-century England as a gamekeeper's retriever, probably from St. John's water dogs, Newfoundlands, setters and collie types. Numbers fell sharply after the world wars, and dedicated breeders revived it from the 1960s onwards.2
