Personality what they are like

A watchful, protective flock guardian that is closely attached to its shepherd family and alert to anything unfamiliar. It is known for a deep, booming voice.1

The story where it all began

These dogs have worked with Himalayan shepherds for a very long time, guarding flocks of sheep and yak and also keeping watch at Nepalese monasteries. As nomadic herding has declined, so has the dog, although local enthusiasts are working to keep it going.1
