The story where it all began
Koolies grew out of British collies that reached Australia around the 1820s and herding dogs brought by German settlers to South Australia and Victoria in the mid-1800s. Farmers bred them purely for working ability, so their looks vary by region. The Koolie Club of Australia was formed in 2000 to keep the breed's records.124
