Personality what they are like

A steady, reliable working dog that was generally gentle with people. Being so friendly, it was not much of a guard dog.1

Daily activity how busy a day looks

Bred to haul heavy loads over long distances through snow, so it has very high endurance needs.1

The story where it all began

In the mid-1800s, native northern sled dogs were crossed with big European working breeds such as Newfoundlands, Saint Bernards and mastiffs to make powerful freight dogs. They were valued across northern Canada and Alaska by the 1860s and became famous during the Klondike Gold Rush. Snowmobiles and other machines replaced them from the 1950s, and very few remain today.1
