A calm, affectionate dog that bonds closely with its family and is known for being tolerant and kind with lively children. It is quiet around the house yet makes an alert watchdog.1

The story where it all began

The breed is thought to descend from primitive hunting dogs such as podengos brought to South America by Portuguese settlers, though a local origin has also been proposed. Rural families in southern Brazil have bred it for generations to hunt pampas deer, and it gained Brazilian recognition in 2000.1
