At a glance the quick version
BRC standard weight about 6 lb (2.72 kg).
Coat and looks how to spot one
short, dense, glossy, silky normal fur
A small, neat rabbit whose coat is lavender blue at the base, topped with longer dark blue guard hairs. Seen from a distance the overall effect is a clear bluish silver. Eyes are a bold blue and the toenails are coloured.1
Personality what they are like
The Argenté breeds are known for a good temperament and are regarded as excellent pets, combining an easygoing nature with a small, tidy build.1
Grooming and care the hands-on bits
The coat is short and lies close to the body. Rabbits keep themselves clean, so routine care is mostly regular hands-on checks of coat, nails and teeth.13
Home where they are happiest
Needs a secure living area of at least 3m x 2m x 1m so it can hop, play, stretch, hide and exercise, with toys and foraging opportunities for enrichment.3
Food basics what goes in the bowl
Hay should form the foundation of the diet, as constant chewing keeps the teeth worn down, with fresh leafy greens and a measured amount of pellets alongside. Carrots are best kept as an occasional treat.3
Company who they like around
A social animal that should live with at least one other rabbit; a neutered male and female pair is often the easiest match.3
The story where it all began
The Argenté rabbits are one of France's oldest groups of show breeds, prized for silvered coats over a coloured undercoat. Britain has kept several colour forms as separate breeds, and Argente Bleu is one of the six recognised by the British Rabbit Council.1
